Partners

sequa is a development organisation active globally and is the lead implementing partner of the MADE in Myanmar project. In close cooperation with the German business community, sequa has been implementing international cooperation projects and programmes since 1991. The focus of sequa‘s work is the promotion of the private sector, offering competence and experience in its business areas of chamber and association promotion, vocational training and trade promotion. sequa‘s most important partners in project implementation are chambers, associations, educational institutions and companies.

sequa is a non-profit limited company, its shareholders are the umbrella organisations of German business (BDA, BDI, DIHK, ZDH) and GIZ.

In Myanmar, sequa has conducted project operations since January 2013, currently managing the MADE in Myanmar project, a direct successor to the SMART Textile & Garments project. MADE carrys forward the SMART Factories Programme as the largest component of action under MADE in Myanmar. In Myanmar, sequa also manages the Prevent Plastics project, another EU-funded development programme focused on plastics reduction, recycling promotion, waste management in industrial zones and consumer awareness on microplastics pollution.

From April 2020 until December, 2022, sequa had also been a key implementing partner of the EU Myan Ku Fund, a 10 million EUR project to provide emergency cash support to garment and textile factory workers who lost jobs following the global pandemic and political instability. Over 90,000 workers received support from this programme, with the major focus on supporting income and nutrition of pregnant workers and young mothers from the sector.

The European Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar – EuroCham Myanmar – serves as the voice of European business in Myanmar. Its main mission is to advocate member interests with organisations in Myanmar, the ASEAN region and the EU.

Members

Members of the newly established MADE in Myanmar project are being onboarded in early 2023 with an expectation to agree on commitments and begin joint cooperation in the first half of 2023. This page will be updated after founding members have signed the memorandum of understanding which guides joint actions and expectations.
