Workplace Communications and Social Dialogue

Workplace Communications and Social Dialogue

On September 24th and 25th, SMART Myanmar conducted a two-day workshop at Jasmine Palace Hotel on Effective Workplace Communications and Social Dialogue. This workshop is part of the project’s SMART Management Systems Lab Series, a program designed to provide short, practical and interactive workshop training sessions for garment, textile and footwear factory middle managers, such as HR staff, compliance staff and general managers.

This workshop was led by SMART Myanmar’s Senior Technical Expert, Nancy Feng, and co-taught by technical experts Zar Chi Tun and Hsu Yin Win. 34 participants joined the workshop.

Beyond just workplace communications, this training session introduces the concept of social dialogue to factory staff and explains some of the mechanisms behind management & union communications. During the 2-days, participants discussed about communications problems and challenges at their own workplaces. As part of the training there was also a group discussion on how to responsibly and effectively handle labor disputes and strikes. This was presented in the form of a case study discussion with role play.

“Communications problems and misunderstandings are all too common in the factories. This workshop is very useful and effective for factory managers to share best practices and discuss effective systems and approaches.”  – Hsu Yin Win (Technical Expert, HR Management & Social Compliance)

"I really like the training content, it's easy to understand. I got a lot of knowledge from the group discussions and exercises." - Thwe Thwe Aung (Takashima Sports Co.,Ltd), a participant at SMART Myanmar's HR training in July.
