Smart Myanmar rolls out production-flow software to Myanmar garment factories

performance based salaryFrom October 11th to October 31st the German textile company ESGE conducted the second mission visit with SMART Myanmar. In the past year ESGE had tested the installation of production –flow software at two Myanmar garment factories: Shweyi Zabe and Tri Sea. On 14th October 2014, German expert Mr. Hans Creuzberger demonstrated the production software and its benefits together with the SMART Myanmar team at the Shweyi Zabe garment factory to other interested Myanmar Garment factories: Maple, Myanmar Synergy, Raising White Tiger and Thiri, Sandar. Thereafter, it was installed at the shop floors of Maple and Thiri Sandar.

ESGE’s visit and support for the SMART project provides an important benefit for the companies and especially their employees. Due to introduction and utilization of the software, the staff can be rewarded according to their performance. This ensures a higher and fair payment in the medium- and long-run for the staff. Such SMART Myanmar interventions create replicable lessons from which other local factories can surely learn and benefit. Because of these effects, SMART Myanmar improves the situation of shop floor workers in the garment industry in a sustainable way.

The software users have to provide accurate data for the efficient use of the software. This requires specific skills which were introduced in the workshop. By using the software, the management can control the whole production and the performance of the staff can be monitored at each stage. Using participative teaching methods, the factory owners were accurately briefed about the software. The knowledge of the participants was also deepened in an interactive part and and in Q&A sessions afterwards for immediate application.

In a second step, the software was installed by ESGE expert Mr Creuzberger and the SMART staff at the venues of the two further companies. In the beginning, the data import in the companies needed to be set up. Afterwards the software could be tailored in every company according to the needs of the company. The software is now installed and sucessfully set up in the companies. Hence the companies can now efficiently make use of a planning and controlling tool for their production.
SMART Myanmar is a project funded by the European Union. The local partners of SMART are the Myanmar Garment Association (MGMA) and UMFCCCI. SMART implements all its activities through and with MGMA.
